SUPPLEMENT

What do you think if someone suggests you to consume supplement?

Do you think it is good idea?

Actually, you no need to consume any supplement if your daily meals have enough nutrition. But changing the lifestyle, especially in food management have given huge effect to our habit. Increasing activity not companied by quality of our food. The effect is, some of people less in one or more vitamins, minerals, fiber, etc. So, how important is supplement?

Definition

Dietary supplement is one product which contain of nutrition and medicine. Likes: vitamins, mineral, amino, animal and vegetables substances. DSHEA (US supplement regulation unit), supplement is additional nutrition to replace missing essence which cannot covered by daily meals.

Who need supplement?

Prof. Tien R. Muchtadi MS (IPB lecture) said that supplement is very useful. Especially for old man/woman, hard worker, and patient in healing process. “they miss a lot of minerals in daily meals” said Prof. Tien.

When we need supplement?

We need supplement if:

1. More activity (more sport or more work)

2. Have a little health problems (skin problems, lips or fragile nail)

3. Allergic

4. In a diet program

Besides that, is no need to consume supplement. So, if we can control our meals to have good food, we do not need to consume supplement. But if we have to consume it, do not forget to analyze the regulation, capacity, dose and safe to consume.
